Bobby Shmurda – one of this year’s biggest breakout stories in hip-hop — went on an Instagram rant Tuesday, complaining he wasn’t getting paid for his concerts and threatening to cease touring.

The 20-year-old Brooklyn rapper pulled down his Instagram posts but not before it was uploaded to Youtube. Listen below.

Shmurda’s acting manager — and, incidentally, his mother — tells Billboard the rant wasn’t a function of any financial issues, but rather of Shmurda being a newcomer to the business.

“It’s not that he’s not getting paid, it’s that he’s new to the business,” Leslie Pollard tells Billboard. “There’s a chain of command that he has to go through before he gets his payment. I guess he’s thinking all the money should go from the front man to his hands — it doesn’t work like that. Of course they hold onto it so he actually does the show. Then it goes to his business manager, then to the touring accountant, and then to him.”

Pollard, who has been acting as his manager for nearly two months, says Shmurda was “just impulse talking” and the issue is essentially resolved.

In happier news, Shmurda’s breakthrough single “Hot N—a” (or “Hot Boy” on radio) just entered the Billboard Hot 100‘s top 10 for the first time. Definitely time to break out the Shmoney dance.

His EP Shmurda She Wrote drops No. 10.
